Image of an older people's nurse wins top award in RCN's Care on Camera competition
A photo of a nurse dressing an older person’s wounds at home has won the RCN’s national photography competition.
The Care on Camera competition was open to amateur and professional photographers, and captured images of nursing work in community and hospital settings.
Gold award winner Anthony Baines, from Kent, captured the winning photograph.
People's Choice award
In the People’s Choice award category, the public chose an image of a hospital patient playing the violin surrounded by his nursing team, which was taken by Kate Fawcett from Scotland.
Panel judge and Royal Photographic Society director-general Michael Pritchard said the 800 entries to the competition highlighted the range of technical and emotional skills that nurses brought to their roles.
Other judges included members of the RCN, BBC journalist Huw Edwards and NHS Employers chief executive Danny Mortimer. The competition was run in association with the Royal Photographic Society and sponsored by NHS Employers.
Touring exhibition
The photographs will form part of a touring exhibition the RCN has planned for its centenary year.
