A nurse who moved to Scotland from her native Philippines has died after contracting COVID-19.

Nurse, wife and mother Ana Lisa Labrador Sayson died on 15 December from multiple organ failure.

She worked at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, having previously worked at the city’s Stobhill Hospital.

‘An incredibly compassionate nurse who was devoted to the care of her patients’

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde chief nurse John Stuart said: ‘Ana Lisa was a much-loved member of the team and an incredibly compassionate nurse who was devoted to the care of her patients.

‘Ana Lisa came to our country from the Philippines to care for our loved ones and my heart goes out to her family, and especially her husband and children.

Remembering nursing staff who have died with COVID-19

‘My thoughts, and the thoughts of all of her NHS family here in Glasgow, are with them at this terribly sad time.’

Filipino Nurses Association UK founding director Francis Fernando tweeted that Ms Sayson was the 57th Filipino nurse to have died from COVID-19 in the UK.

‘She looked after me as a newly qualified staff nurse’

One nurse said Ms Sayson ‘looked after me as a newly qualified staff nurse in Stobhill. Forever grateful’.

In response to Ms Sayson’s death, a GoFundMe page has been set up to raise funds for her family.

Nursing Standard believes Ms Sayson is the 94th nurse to have died in the COVID-19 pandemic.

The news of her death comes a week after Nursing Standard reported on the death of nurse Barclay Mason, who worked at the Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust in Harlow, Essex.
