Big Ideas awards offer bursaries for innovation in care

Healthcare teams and individuals who can demonstrate they are championing innovation can compete for bursaries worth £3,000 to extend their projects.
The Big Ideas for Better Health Awards will be judged by an independent panel led by the Patients Association.
Entry is open to UK-based healthcare professionals, NHS or not-for-profit healthcare organisations, and patient groups working on innovative projects in one of three categories:
- Delivering care closer to home.
- Supporting self-management and self-care.
- Driving prevention and early intervention.
Empowering patients
Patients Association chief executive Rachel Power said: 'We are always keen to recognise those who go above and beyond to empower patients and have the ambition to make the NHS even better, so I am excited to see the entries.'
The deadline for submissions to the awards – formerly known as Patients as Partners and run by the pharmaceutical research and development company AbbVie UK – is 27 July. One winner will be chosen for each category and announced at Westminster in November.
AbbVie UK general manager Jerome Bouyer said: 'We’re committed to championing initiatives that have the potential to benefit the NHS more widely and want to help transform these big ideas into action.'
RCN's own Nurse Awards 2018 winners will be announced at a ceremony in London in July, after more than 700 entries are whittled down to 70 finalists.
