Many universities have seen a significant increase in applications to health courses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Data from the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) show there were 47,320 applications for undergraduate nursing courses in England in 2020 – a 16% rise on the 40,780 in 2019.

Accommodating growing student numbers during the pandemic

This trend has continued into 2021, with latest UCAS data showing there were 60,130 applications for nursing courses in the UK by 29 January this year – the highest since numbers for nursing courses started to be collated in 2007.
