Letter: Nurses up before NMC are being treated inhumanely

Michael Owen says fitness to practice cases are taking too long to come to a hearing

I truly hope that the NMC (and other nursing organisations) will do something about the inhumane treatment of nurses such as Pauline Cafferkey who face fitness to practice hearings.

Many people are waiting months – sometimes  years - to have allegations against them resolved.

Others have already written to Nursing Standard about the stress and mental health problems this waiting brings.

The case against Cafferkey should never have reached a full fitness to practice hearing.  It is no wonder the NMC has to increase fees because of the huge expense in dealing with inappropriate cases such as Pauline’s and others.
