Jane Everitt says Ethel and Ernest gives an insight into what true compassionate care really means

The film Ethel and Earnest an animation by Raymond Briggs based on the lives of his parents following the couple from marriage to death - should be compulsory viewing for all involved in healthcare.

It explains beautifully how people of this generation dealt with the challenges that faced them, from war and mental health issues to the generation gap and medical patriarchy, as well as many other cultural issues.

End of life and death has never been portrayed on film in such a realistic and respectful manner as far as I am aware. Whatever your role in healthcare, this film will give you an insight, for both the heart and the head, into what true compassionate care really means.

Thank you Raymond Briggs.
