Specialist Mental Healthcare for Children and Adolescents

This book brings together experts in the field of child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS). It is a brave attempt at collating a range of topics in areas including practice, consultation, integrated services, specialist services and commissioning, offering insights into the challenges the specialism faces.

The detailed discussions and the specifics of each chapter mean the book could be termed ‘academically applied’ in tone. Each chapter assumes a certain amount of prior knowledge or interest in that area of care, but the novice reader or student writing an assignment are not excluded.

Authors Tim McDougall and Andy Cotgrove are a nurse consultant and consultant adolescent psychiatrist respectively, giving the book real authority. Points of note include education, training and workforce development, home-based treatments and foster care. The authors prioritise practice-based concerns, and do not shirk from the real-life trials being experienced by clients.

This is the most up to date CAMHS book around for academics, policy developers and practitioners.
