The importance of delivering evidence-based practice has never been greater, with nurses coming under increasing pressure to demonstrate that there is a valid reason for every intervention.

This week Nursing Standard launches a new series that aims to help you ensure that your care is based on the most up-to-date and relevant clinical evidence.

We have teamed up with the Cochrane Nursing Care Field (CNCF) to publish summaries of its world-renowned Cochrane Reviews on our website and in the print journal.

The full reviews systematically identify and appraise evidence obtained through research studies, integrate the findings, pool the data where appropriate and generate overall results.

Direct access

The summaries in Nursing Standard are designed to give you direct access to the most relevant evidence that otherwise might not reach you. The original authors and full citation of the Cochrane Review are included in each summary, so you can delve deeper if you so wish.

Such research is being conducted all the time, and the findings disseminated in scientific journals that can be expensive to buy and time-consuming to read.

We hope that the collaboration between the CNCF and Nursing Standard will help you find the most relevant evidence you need quickly and easily, and so ensure that research has an impact on practice much more quickly than is often the case.

Please let us know what you think, and feel free to make suggestions on how these summaries could be made even better.
