Have you responded to a health emergency while off duty? Did you grapple between doing ‘the right thing’ and a fear of being out of your depth?

So-called Good Samaritan acts by nurses are the topic of the latest Nursing Standard podcast.

Buckinghamshire New University senior lecturer Carolyn Crouchman speaks to senior nurse editor Richard Hatchett about her research into duty of care, which included interviews with nurses and midwives.

Nurses have a duty under the Nursing and Midwifery Council code to respond to emergencies outside of their workplace – but there is no legal obligation to do so.

Dr Crouchman also discusses issues such as bystanders filming at the scene of emergencies and posting footage on social media.
