Nurse Misti Johnson has tattoos on both arms

Jordan Miller took to a Facebook group called Love What Matters after his mother Misti Johnson revealed the strict rules about body art imposed by some hospitals.

The Texas-based nurse has dozens of tattoos on both her arms and complained to her son how she was often made to cover them up with long sleeves.

Mr Miller wrote on Facebook: ‘I must say I am kind of confused.

‘I've seen my mom pull a lady out of a car before it fills with smoke and she suffocates. I've seen her do stitches on an injured person on the side of the road following a car accident.

‘I've seen her come home after a 12-hour shift, dead tired after dealing with an abusive patient all day, and get back up and do it again the next day.

He continued: ‘She’s come home after holding a baby in her hands and watching it take their last breath. She’s saved a drug addict’s life after an overdose in the hospital bed.’

Work ethic

Mr Miller said ‘tattoos don’t define the person’ and added that they have never affected his mother’s work ethic.

‘She will wake up at the same time every day and save a life,’ he wrote.

Mr Miller’s post has been shared more than 116,000 times, liked by 135,000 people and received over 60 comments, most of which are in support of his mother.

Ms Johnson later wrote on the same forum: ‘Wow we never expected national attention from the “tattoo nurse” post. I am beyond honoured.

‘I know some won’t and don’t approve of the tats, but I’m almost positive if it meant life and death, my tats would be the last of your worries! Cheers to all the supporters.’

Last year, a Facebook post by another US nurse, who has colourful hair, multiple piercings and tattoos, earned hundreds of thousands of views after she wrote about being criticised for her appearance.

She also gained support from followers of Nursing Standard’s Facebook page.
