Social care home provider enters into training partnership with RCN

The RCN and one of the UK’s largest care home providers have joined forces to provide ongoing training and development for nurses working in the social care sector.
A learning agreement was signed by the college and the Caring Homes Group to provide education for employed and agency staff working for the group, a provider of residential and nursing care homes across the UK.
The group, which also includes Consensus, a provider of support and accommodation for people with learning disabilities and additional complex needs, has more than 5,700 employees including 630 nurses and nursing support workers.

The national agreement will support the creation of new learning representative roles across the Caring Homes Group’s services.
A total of 14 RCN learning representatives have been recruited so far, according to the college.
RCN national officer Irene Murray said: ‘Sometimes it has been hard for our members in the social care sector to take full advantage of the services the RCN offers because we didn’t have enough representatives in place – services such as career development or well-being support.
‘This agreement gives us the chance to support our members in the social care sector and make sure we have a base of representatives in place.’
Supporting the nursing journey
Caring Homes Group training lead and RCN learning representative Jagdeep Bahra said: ‘I work across five regions supporting colleagues from all levels of the business with training so becoming an RCN learning representative seemed like a natural progression.
‘We have significant numbers of nursing staff joining us from overseas so this will help me to better support them with their nursing journey.’
Liz Willis, Caring Homes Group director of learning and organisational development, said the national agreement was a ‘quality measure’ for the organisation.
