The programme, funded by Health Education England (HEE), includes study days, distance learning and guest lectures from international experts in older people's care. Successful candidates will also undertake a quality improvement or service innovation project in their own organisation.

The programme began in 2014, and is open to band 7 and 8 nurses and senior allied health professionals working across England working predominately in older adult services.

Dynamic network

Notable fellows include North East London NHS Foundation Trust nurse consultant for frailty and long-term care Geraldine Rodgers, who won the Nursing Older People Award at the RCNi Nurse Awards 2016 for improving safety on a older people’s mental health ward.

Joint lead for the Older Person’s Nurse Fellowship programme and specialist older person’s nursing lecturer Corina Naughton said: ‘Future fellows will join a dynamic network and have the opportunity to champion the voice of older people, as well as act as role models to attract early-career nurses and allied health professionals to this exciting specialty.’

HEE director of nursing Lisa Bayliss-Pratt added: ‘If you are someone who wants to make a real change to the way we provide care, I urge you to take up this offer.’

There are 30 funded places (travel and tuition fees included) available on the year-long course.

Graduating students receive a postgraduate certificate in advanced practice and the closing date to apply is 10 November.
