Scottish nurse recognised for contribution to community nursing

A nurse with an interest in person-centred care has won an award for her contribution to community nursing.

Lynn Weir is the recipient of this year’s Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland Contribution to Community Nursing Award for postgraduates.

The award recognises the postgraduate student showing the most promise in community nursing.

Ms Weir recently graduated with a postgraduate diploma for person-centred practice (district nursing) from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, and qualified as a specialist practitioner district nurse.

She worked as a community nurse for NHS Borders for 13 years, before taking this postgraduate course.

High standards

Ms Weir, from Peebles in the Scottish Borders said: ‘I was honoured to be nominated and to win. Promoting excellence and upholding high standards of care is something I aspire to.

‘I hope to continue to promote the principles of person-centred care, working alongside my colleagues in NHS Borders. I look forward to the challenges and benefits of moving towards integration in the community, continuously striving to improve care, and valuing the contribution of staff, patients and families in this process.’

Ms Weir also has undergraduate degrees in sociology and adult nursing.

Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland promotes excellence in community nursing across the country.
