Nursing students and newly qualified nurses can access learning and career guidance via a new app launched by the RCN.

RCN Starting Out will offer students and newly qualified nurses information and guidance to keep their knowledge and learning up to date.

RCN director for England Mike Adams said: ‘This is all about supporting nurses from the very beginning of their journey in our brilliant profession. We want them to know the benefits of being members of the RCN and how they can participate in the valuable work we do.’

Education resources, professional support and guidance on RCN’s role

The app includes:

  • Education and learning resources to help students with their studies and placements, as well as continuing professional development.
  • Support with professional and personal matters, including financial guidance, confidential counselling and career planning advice.
  • Guidance on the role of the RCN as a trade union and professional body and how this benefits nursing staff.

Easy-to-use app makes it easy for students to find information

New features and content will be added to the app and the RCN has dedicated part of its website to Starting Out.

RCN UK students committee chair Jess Sainsbury said: ‘When you’re joining the nursing profession there is a lot of information to take in and this can be a little overwhelming. Having all that information in one place in an easy-to-use format will make it much easier to find what you need.’
