Nurse-organised prescribing conference hailed a success
Nurse prescribers were among almost 100 delegates to attend a non-medical prescribing conference in Scotland.
The conference was funded by NHS Grampian and organised by the board’s associate nurse director Linda Harper.
Delighted
The theme of the event, which took place at Robert Gordon University (RGU) in Aberdeen last month, was human factors and evidence in prescribing.
Ms Harper said: ‘We were delighted to attract such a large number of delegates to the conference this year.
‘The conference offered a good opportunity for non-medical prescribers to share experiences and best practice with each other. Our keynote speakers did a great job with their presentations, sparking a lot of discussion throughout the day.’
Pharmacists and allied health professionals were also in attendance.
Keynote speakers
Keynote speakers included Catherine Paterson who studied as an undergraduate nursing student and successfully attained her non-medical prescribing qualification at RGU.
In August she was appointed as a lecturer in adult nursing at the university and shared with conference her experience of developing evidence-based clinical practice.
Figures from the Nursing and Midwifery Council, published in April 2016, show a total of 73,804 qualified nurse prescribers on the register, which represents 10.7% of the total register.
