A more diverse parliament than ever before will convene for the state opening on Monday, 19 June.

Wolverhampton South MP and theatre nurse Eleanor Smith is one of 17 new female MPs, bringing the total to 208.

The Labour politician is also one of 11 new black, minority, ethnic members of the House of Commons, bringing the total to 52 out of 650 MPs.

Ms Smith, the first black president of Unison in 2011-12, tweeted: 'Huge thank you to all who voted for me, I'm honoured to be chosen by you to be your voice in Westminster.'
