The CoDoH, which represents UK university faculties engaged in education and research for nursing, midwifery and the allied health professions, said Katerina Kolyva would take up post on 7 December.

Dr Kolyva was previously Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) director of continued practice.

The CoDoH said she brings 'extensive experience' of EU funding and regulation to the appointment, having previously established the European network of nursing regulators and worked for the European Commission.

Delight at appointment

CoDoH chair Dame Jessica Corner said: ‘I am delighted the council has been able to appoint Katerina as executive director.

'She brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise not just from her roles at the NMC, but also from her work in Europe.

'I look forward very much to working with her as the council navigates the challenges ahead for health higher education’.

Dr Kolyva said: ‘I am very excited by the opportunity to lead the council in the next phase of its development and look forward to working with members across the home nations to ensure the sector has an effective voice’.
