District nurses and midwives among UK's top ten most accident-prone drivers

District nurses and midwives are among the UK’s top ten most accident-prone professions when driving, according to a new study. 

The two occupations are tied as the tenth most likely to have had an at-fault accident on the road.

Just over one in 10 (10.46%) of district nurses and midwives made at least one at-fault claim in the past three years, according to insurance comparison website Gocompare.com.

The top ten list does not make pretty reading for the health sector, with all the positions taken by caring professions:

10= District nurse (10.46%)

10= Midwife (10.46%)

Cardiff University occupational and health psychology expert Andrew Smith said: ‘It is likely that the high levels of stress in a medical practitioner’s day, combined with long hours could play a significant part in the high proportion of at-fault car insurance claims they have.’

The least accident-prone drivers in the UK are abattoir workers with only one in 100 (1.39%) having an at-fault claim, according to the study.
