NHS England’s director of nursing Hilary Garratt has received a CBE from the Duke of Cambridge.
She was invested with the honour by Prince William during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace on 2 March.
Ms Garratt was named in the New Year’s Honours list for services to nursing and the safeguarding of vulnerable people.
After the ceremony she said: ‘I am delighted to receive this honour, and it is a tribute to so many people that I have worked alongside over many years.’
She has been praised as an ‘unsung hero' by England’s chief nursing officer Jane Cummings.
