A trial date has been set for a children’s nurse accused of the murder of eight babies at a hospital neonatal unit.

Lucy Letby, from Hereford, is due to go on trial at Manchester Crown Court on 4 July 2022, with the trial expected to last six months.

Nurse also faces ten counts of attempted murder

Ms Letby is alleged to have murdered five baby boys and three baby girls while working at the Countess of Chester Hospital between June 2015 and June 2016. She is also accused of the attempted murder of five boys and five girls.

She was arrested in 2018 and again in 2019 as part of a police investigation, and was charged in November 2020.

A further pre-trial hearing will be held in October. Ms Letby, who has yet to enter a plea, remains in custody.
