Chester hospital deaths: nurse charged with murder of eight babies appears in court

A children’s nurse accused of murdering eight babies has appeared in court ahead of her trial.
Lucy Letby denies murdering five boys and three girls at the Countess of Chester Hospital between June 2015 and June 2016.
She also denies the attempted murder of five baby girls and five baby boys.

She also denies the attempted murder of five baby girls and five baby boys.
Ms Letby, from Hereford, was arrested in 2018 and again in 2019 as part of a police investigation, and was charged in November 2020.
Trial of nurse scheduled for October
She appeared via video link from HMP Bronzefield in Ashford, Surrey for a pre-trial hearing at Chester Crown Court on Monday 24 January. Ms Letby spoke only to confirm her identity during the 50-minute session.
The hearing dealt with arrangements ahead of the trial at Manchester Crown Court, which is scheduled for 4 October and is expected to last six months.
She was remanded in custody until her next pre-trial hearing.
