Emergency nurse practitioner at Betsi Cadwaladr health board helped set up essential service
An emergency nurse is celebrating reaching a career milestone of treating more than 30,000 patients.
Emergency nurse practitioner Rhiannon Pritchard was instrumental in setting up the emergency nurse practitioner service at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board in Bangor, north Wales. The service assesses, diagnoses and decides on appropriate treatment for patients with minor injuries.
Nurse-led emergency service provides whole package of care
Ms Pritchard started her career as a staff nurse before advancing to her nurse practitioner role and her employer has managed to tot up the number of patients who have passed through her hands from its records.
She said is proud of the important part it has played in the wider emergency department.
‘I really love my job and I find great satisfaction in providing the whole package of care, from assessment to discharge,’ she said.
‘We’re lucky to have Rhiannon in Ysbyty Gwynedd’s emergency department’
Ysbyty Gwynedd’s emergency department matron, Lyn Roberts, praised Ms Pritchard for treating an incredible 30,000 patients over the years.
‘I would like to thank Rhiannon for her continued dedication – she really is a fantastic nurse and has cared for thousands of people in our community,’ she said.
‘She is a very valued member of staff and we are lucky to have her as part of the team.’
