CPD: fight for protected time puts nursing revalidation at risk

Taking part in CPD is a core part of the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s revalidation process, whether a nurse or midwife is employed in the NHS, or the private or voluntary sectors. Nurses and midwives must complete at least 35 hours of CPD relevant to their scope of practice every three years to remain on the NMC register. Ongoing pressures on funding and staffing are leaving nurses struggling to fulfil the CPD required for revalidation and there are calls for statutory change and protected time.
