Where nursing education should be based

Kate Morle Professor of Nursing at Liverpool University, One of her main aims over recent years has been to establish the Degree of Nursing at the University and set up a strong department. Her research interests have centred on quality of life/consumer aspects of hospitalisation as well as the effectiveness of evaluation procedures used in student nurse training as predictors of success (the subject of her MSc thesis)

How far should nursing move to an all-graduate profession? Kate Morle offers a broad view

For some considerable time nursing education was the sole responsibility of schools of nursing. however since the mid-1960s, nursing education has been provided by other institutions, such as col- eges, universities and polytechnics. courses provided by these institutions range from rgn courses, post basic courses, community certificate courses, post graduate courses plus degrees both at graduate and post graduate levels plus post registration degree opportunities. judge (1) recommended the direct transition of nurse education into the higher education sector, a concept not supported in project 2000. seemingly links with further and higher education are regarded as more favourable to the transfer of nursing education from the national health service.
