Patient-held oncology records

Kate Hayward Clinical Nurse Specialist, Oncology, St James’s University Hospital NHS Trust, Leeds

Here, the author describes how an information booklet for oncology patients was developed. The booklet’s positive reception suggests that the idea could be used in other settings

The Professorial Medical Oncology Unit at St James’s Hospital in Leeds was established in 1989. As the patient population has grown, many medical, nursing and other health professionals have joined the multidisciplinary team involved with patient care. With the growing number of people involved and the escalating workload, communicating and sharing information has become more complex.
