The perception that nursing in the community means a step back and a slower pace is an outdated stereotype that is easily disputed, says district nurse and advanced nurse practitioner Bridget Kearns.

‘A lot of nurses who join us who have never worked in the community are quite shocked at how varied our work is and the vast range of skills we need to manage our patients, who can have complex needs,’ says Ms Kearns, who has been working in district nursing services at Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) since 1998.
