Social care is the multi-dimensional support offered to people living in the community.

The 1.5 million-strong adult social care workforce – including 34,000 registered nurses – provide personal care and support to people with learning disabilities, mental health needs and alcohol and drug dependency, as well as older people.

What types of people will I work with?

Social care isn’t about looking after ‘patients’ – it is about looking after people to maintain their independence and quality of life, helping them to reach their potential.
