Aggressive patients: when should nursing staff refuse to treat?

After riots across the UK in summer, the RCN updated guidance to remind nurses of the circumstances in which they can refuse to treat patients – such as when they are behaving in an abusive, racist or violent manner. Our readers’ panel give their views on how nurses’ duty of care needs to be balanced against their safety and that of other patients.
