Nursing research: chief nurse wants to hear your ideas
Chief nurse appointed leading figures to push forward a strategy that will inform nursing policy and practice
NHS England and NHS Improvement is inviting nurses to contribute to the chief nursing officer’s vision for nursing research.
The research strategy will underpin policy and system change in the NHS and chief nurse Ruth May appointed two senior figures from practice and academia to push it forward as part of her national team.
Senior nurses appointed to leadership roles in the chief nurse’s team
Nottingham University Hospitals assistant director of nursing Jo Cooper was appointed head of nursing research, research transformation, while University of Southampton clinical professor in cancer nursing and end of life care Alison Richardson has been appointed head of nursing research, academic leadership and strategy.
Ms May said: ‘These new posts flag the very significant work that goes on in nursing research and what it can yet deliver,’ she said.
Dr Cooper will work two days a week at her trust and three days in the NHS England and NHS Improvement team.
She said: ‘Nursing practice is pivotal to best patient and staff outcomes, and I look forward to working with colleagues across England to further embed a culture of research, excellence and the partnerships for success across health and care systems.’
Professor Richardson, whose new role is two days a week, said she looks ‘forward to working with colleagues from many different parts of the health and care system to strengthen the contribution of nursing research in practice, professional decision making and policy.’
