A healthcare assistant (HCA) with a ‘heart full of love’ has died after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

Yvonne Taggart died on Christmas Eve, University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) NHS Trust said.

‘Went above and beyond in her work’

Ms Taggart, who had three daughters and four grandchildren, had worked at UHL since 2003.

In a statement released by the trust, her daughters Emma, Sarah and Danielle said: ‘Mum had a big heart full of love to give and she has left a big hole in the hearts of everyone who knows and loves her. She is forever in our thoughts.

‘Mum always spoke very highly of what she referred to as her work family and often told us about the laughs you (UHL staff) all shared.

‘Throughout the years mum made a lot of true friendships, some of which we, her daughters, have been fortunate to have met and are privileged to be able to remain in contact with.’

COVID-19: remembering the nursing staff who have lost their lives

A trust spokesperson said Ms Taggart went above and beyond in her work and that she would be deeply missed by her colleagues.

One of Ms Taggart’s colleagues, who was also a close friend, said: ‘You were inspiring, so caring, so unique, even those who only met you for a moment felt your uniqueness. I know the friendship that we gained will impact me for eternity.’

Nursing Standard believes Ms Taggart is the 96th member of the nursing community in the UK to have died in the COVID-19 pandemic.
