A nurse is facing eight charges of murder and ten charges of attempted murder.

Lucy Letby, 30, from Hereford, was rearrested on 10 November in connection with an investigation into the deaths of eight babies and the non-fatal collapse of ten others at the neonatal unit at The Countess of Chester Hospital in Chester.

Nurse due to appear in court today

The charges relate to the period between June 2015 and June 2016.

Ms Letby had been arrested in 2018 and again in 2019 as part of the investigation.

She was held in custody and is due to appear at Warrington magistrates’ court today, 12 November.

A police statement asked the public not to speculate online regarding the case. It said: ‘Criminal proceedings against Lucy Letby are live and she has a right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice ongoing proceedings.’
