Barclays bank is providing 250 hours of free training for all 2,100 nurses employed by the charity. The sessions will focus on how to use new tablet devices that have been issued to nurses.

The Digital Eagles training will teach skills such as accessing digital patient records, checking drugs, accessing online information and connecting with other nurses.

Marie Curie nurse Mary Carroll, who attended a training session at a Barclays branch in London, said: ‘I use my tablet to check potential side effects of drugs and to look up specific medical conditions. Having access to information at my fingertips has made a huge difference to my job and patient care.’

The tablets were funded by NHS England’s Nursing Technology Fund, a scheme which has spent £65 million over the past three years to help nurses make better use of digital technology in all care settings.
