The Royal College of Physicians has developed a guide for patients and carers to help prevent serious injuries and unnecessary cost to the NHS due to older people tripping or falling in hospital.

The guide, entitled Falls Prevention in Hospital, outlines the care patients can expect to receive in hospital, and advises on being alert to, and avoiding, potential dangers.

It also includes a check list of simple measures that can minimise the risk of falling or tripping.
