A joint consultation by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and NHS England sets out changes to the arrangements for evaluating and funding drugs, and for other health technologies appraised through NICE’s relevant programmes. The aims of the consultation are to:

  • Give patients quicker access to the most cost-effective new treatments.
  • Offer more flexibility in the adoption of cost-effective, high‑budget impact technologies in the NHS.
  • Provide greater clarity for patients and companies about when NICE‑appraised treatments for rare conditions will automatically qualify for funding from routine commissioning budgets.
