The guide outlines updated criteria for best practice to support clinicians and clinical audit staff with planning, designing and carrying out audits.

It is intended to:

  • Enable managers and board members to evaluate and improve clinical audit activities.
  • Help commissioners assess the quality of audit evidence.
  • Inform service users about how to participate.

The guide has been published with checklists for assessing healthcare organisations clinical audit programmes and clinical audits, against the criteria.

The checklists can be downloaded and adapted for local use.
