Professor White, who was awarded the CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in June, took up her post 2010 and is an honorary visiting professor at Cardiff University and the University of South Wales.

She is expert adviser to the World Health Organization’s European region and is working on implementing the Nurse Staffing Levels (Wales) Act 2016.

Professor White said she was honoured to receive the award and that it was a ‘privilege’ to care for people when they are in need.

Other nurse leaders who were named in the same honours list include Queen’s Nursing Institute chief executive Crystal Oldman, awarded a CBE for services to charity and community nursing, and Macmillan head and neck clinical nurse specialist Cherith Semple, who was made an MBE.
