Trust creates ‘one-stop shop’ to interview and recruit nurses on the same day

An NHS Trust offers nurses jobs immediately after successful interviews, in a bid to boost staff numbers.

An NHS trust has taken a fast-track approach to recruiting nurses, by offering them jobs immediately after successful interviews

Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (RJAH) in Shropshire offered jobs to 17 nurses, and transformed the hospital’s main entrance into an area where candidates could meet different trust teams.

Staff nurse, ward and theatre posts were among the jobs on offer to both newly-qualified and experienced nurses.

A trust spokesperson said the nurses who received the job offers would be subject to usual pre-employment checks.

Great turnout 

Director of nursing Bev Tabernacle said the trust wanted to provide a ‘one-stop shop day’ as an alternative to traditional advertising through the organisation’s NHS Jobs website page.

She said: ‘It was a terrific event and we were pleased with the number of nurses who came along to find out more about working at RJAH.

‘We were delighted by the calibre of candidate that attended, and look forward to welcoming several of them to our hospital in the coming weeks and months.

Informative day 

‘I would like to thank everyone who worked so hard to make the day the success it was, especially the nursing staff from our various wards, who ran some informative and eye-catching stands.’

Deputy director of human resources Sue Pryce said: ‘The service the hospital provides is growing rapidly. We want enthusiastic, skilled nurses to fill the roles that are now appearing because of these expansions.

‘Having a recruitment day is a great way to reach out to those candidates who could do well in the trust. It’s also a great way of showing what we do for staff in terms of careers and education. Sometimes an advert doesn’t do it justice.’
