RCN International Nursing Research Conference 2018 lines up leading speakers from around the world
Resilience, changing nursing roles and financial challenges will be discussed at an international conference of nurse academics
Speakers from Australia, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and United States will attend the RCN International Nursing Research Conference 2018 in Birmingham on 16-18 April.
Keynote speaker Cardiff University professor of nursing Davina Allen will address the conference on the changing role of nurses, while, Middlesex University’s Michael Traynor will consider resilience.
Professor Traynor has been critical of the term 'resilience' in recent months. In a blog for the Foundation of Nursing Studies he writes: ‘Some nurse leaders and researchers along with, I imagine, many politicians are grasping at the straw of resilience as the NHS falls apart due to a series of policy decisions on the part of our current government.
‘Resilience is a characteristic way of getting individual nurses (and others) to feel some personal responsibility for invidious system problems.’
Excellent event for nurse academics
Health Foundation director of research and economics Anita Charlesworth will discuss financial issues and Brexit, while the fourth keynote speaker will be RCN general secretary Janet Davies.
Ms Davies will consider some of the challenges members of the college face and how research plays an important role in RCN campaigns.
RCN chair of nursing research Daniel Kelly said the conference was an excellent event to bring nurse academics together as a community and had run successfully for 19 years in its current format.
