A further change to the senior team at the RCN has been announced today, after several months of upheaval following the miscommunication of the NHS pay deal.

Bronagh Scott, executive director of nursing at the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board in South Wales, will join the college as interim director of nursing policy and practice in December for six months.

Management changes

Ms Scott will stand in for Dame Donna Kinnair, the permanent post holder, while she continues to serve as acting chief executive and general secretary following the departure of Janet Davies in August.

Ms Davies, who was in post from 2015, stepped down following criticism of the college’s handling of the NHS pay deal that members voted to accept in June.

Professor Kinnair said: ‘We are delighted that Bronagh is joining the college on an interim basis.

‘She brings a huge range of experience in nursing leadership positions, and we all look forward to welcoming her to the RCN.’

Senior skills

Ms Scott qualified as a nurse in Northern Ireland and specialised in intensive care nursing in Belfast and Perth, Western Australia.

She has held a number of senior management and executive director posts in health and social services in Northern Ireland and London.

Her most recent role was deputy chief nurse for NHS England’s London region.
