The Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI) announced the new funding stream for one-year projects starting in March 2017.

The funding is available for up to ten projects at up to £5,000 each.

Work on any aspect of men’s health will be considered and the programme is open to all nurses in primary or community settings who work with male patients of any age.

Projects can be based in any part of the UK, apart from Scotland which is covered by QNI Scotland.

Charity statistics

QNI director of programmes Anne Pearson said the Men’s Health Forum charity has shown that, in the UK, one man in five dies before the age of 65.

Key areas of concern identified by the charity include heart disease, obesity and suicide.

Priority will be given to patient-focussed projects and successful applicants will also get professional development support from the QNI.

Ms Pearson said: ‘This is an opportunity for all nurses working across specialities including school nurses, district nurses, practice nurses, health visitors and many other specialties to consider developing a new initiative to support male clients.’

The application deadline is 24 November.
