Candidates are being sought for fellowships, which are awarded to nurses, and honorary fellowships, given to those outside nursing who have made a significant impact on the profession.

The RCN calls on the expertise and experience of fellows, who have an advanced level of skill, for a wide range of projects working to improve nursing practice.

Current fellows include Baroness Audrey Emerton, a member of the House of Lords, and leading nurse and campaigner Elizabeth Anionwu, who was made a dame in the New Year’s honours.

Very best

The most recent honorary fellowship was awarded to Welsh assembly minister Kirsty Williams for her work driving through the Safe Nurse Staffing Levels Bill.

RCN general secretary Janet Davies said: ‘RCN fellowships celebrate the very best of the nursing profession. If you know someone either within or outside of the nursing profession who has made a real difference, we want to hear from you.’

Both fellows and honorary fellows are entitled to use the letters FRCN after their name.

The deadline for nominations is 24 January. The fellowships will be announced at RCN Congress in Liverpool in May.
