Fundraising nurse invited to royal street party

Nurse will sit down to celebration lunch in The Mall to mark the Queen's 90th birthday

A mental health nurse and prolific fundraiser for the RCN Foundation has been invited to a royal party to be attended by the Queen.

Roz Hargreaves, who works for Bupa, will be a guest at the Patron’s Lunch, a giant street party for 10,000 people in The Mall in London next month. The invited guests will enjoy entertainment and a picnic lunch at tables positioned along the length of The Mall. It is being held to acknowledge the Queen’s patronage of more than 600 charities including the RCN Foundation, and is part of her 90th birthday celebrations.

Ms Hargreaves began raising money as a student and has continued to do so during her two years since graduating. She has raised thousands of pounds through 10km runs, comedy nights, cake sales and book stalls.

The RCN Foundation offers financial support and career development opportunities to nurses, midwives, healthcare assistants and nursing students.

Ms Hargreaves told the Lancashire Evening Post: ‘I have friends who have struggled financially through nursing and it’s a way of supporting them. I’m shocked and honoured at the same time to be chosen to go.’

Deepa Korea, head of the RCN Foundation, said: ‘The money raised by people like Roz has enabled us to support hundreds of nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants.

‘The Patron’s Lunch offered the perfect opportunity for us to say a huge thank you to people who have helped the foundation in the past, and to recognise their fundraising achievements. Without their efforts, we simply wouldn’t be able to support as many nurses as we do.’
