On the day before entries close for the RCNi Nurse Awards 2019, its chair of judges Yvonne Coghill has told how an accolade should be seen as reward for a team effort.

Ms Coghill has been honoured for her services to racial equality in the NHS, and received her Commander of the British Empire (CBE) medal from the Duke of Cambridge last week.

‘Receiving any honour is wonderful but to receive my CBE from Prince William was quite simply amazing,’ Ms Coghill said.

But she added that her CBE was also a reflection of a greater effort beyond just herself.

Showing gratitude

‘Though I received the award, it actually belongs to a lot of people. To all my dear friends, family and colleagues who have helped me, supported me and guided me – thank you.’

Ms Coghill will soon be considering entries from across the healthcare profession to the RCNi Nurse Awards 2019, which close on Friday 15 February.
