Managers now have to work out how to cover for centre's in-house baby boom
How's this for a baby boom? Nine nurses working on a labour and delivery ward in a US hospital have announced they're pregnant.
Maine Medical Center in Portland now has the task of planning cover for all their shifts as they are expecting their babies between April and July of this year.
'I wondered if there's something in the air'
Nurse Erin Grenier was the first on the team to announce her pregnancy and said she wondered if ‘something was in the air’ as her colleagues began to share their news.
‘I guess I started a trend,' she said.
A photo featuring eight of the nine colleagues went viral after it was posted on the hospital's Facebook page.
The nurses have received congratulations from around the world, including from women they have cared for.
Former patients' good wishes
Liz Boutin wrote on Facebook that one of the women was her postpartum nurse when she delivered her son last month: ‘We wish all these awesome ladies safe delivery and healthy babies.’
Some of the nurses will be giving birth for the first time, while others are having their second or even fourth child.
Nurse Samantha Giglio explained: ‘I think it’s comforting knowing we are all in this together.’
