A chance to join the first children’s hospital in England to receive an outstanding Care Quality Commission (CQC) rating is on offer to nurses attending this week’s RCN Bulletin Jobs Fair.

The event takes place on 2-3 March at the NEC in Birmingham, where local success story Birmingham Children’s Hospital will be a potential recruiter.

Last week the CQC announced it had awarded the hospital, now part of Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, its highest possible score.

Passion and enthusiasm

The hospital’s lead nurse for education and workforce development Yvonne Heward said: ‘We’ll be looking for people with enthusiasm, passion, compassion and excellent communication skills.

‘We’ve expanded from 20 beds to 31 in five years and that presented a challenge in terms of recruiting the extra workforce required.

‘I’m delighted to say we’ve recruited nurses at most of these Jobs Fair events in the past, and we still have staff working for us now who we recruited at our first fair four years ago.’

The trust is looking for recruits for its paediatric intensive care unit (ICU) and, for the first time, its neonatal ICU.

Busy event

The Jobs Fair will feature 50 stalls, including NHS trusts, private healthcare organisations and the armed forces, as well as seminars on revalidation, CV writing and interview techniques.

RCN regional director Paul Vaughan will also give talks on carrying out reflective practice, and on emotional resilience.

There will also be a competition to win £250 of M&S vouchers and a weekend away.
