Treating a child with a fever is a skilled nursing activity. This article explains the underlying physiological mechanisms of a fever and relates these to the clinical signs, symptoms and care of children.
The aim of this article is to provide a physiological explanation for normal controls of body temperature in children and the way these are altered in fever. This knowledge is then related to clinical signs and symptoms, and the care of children with fevers.
