Introducing research and evidence-based practice for nurses

EVIDENCE BASED practice is an increasingly hot topic and this book is timely because of both the move towards an all-graduate profession and the increase in the use of evidence in nursing. Nurses need to understand the relationship between research, evidence and practice and then to be able to use that understanding to provide the best possible care for the patient.

The aim is to pull students in to research by keeping it simple and fun. It maintains an easy approach throughout – every term is explained and there are plenty of examples from the literature and practice to help students to understand what is meant.

Maybe that is why I liked this book so much. Many texts try to cover as much as possible whereas this one sets clear limits on what it will do to introduce the subject and it sticks to those limits.

That Dr Jolley puts research squarely in the professional arena is what is particularly enticing about this book. It is not just about doing a piece of academic research to pass the course or gain a pass mark for an individual piece of work, rather it is about enabling and encouraging the students to begin to acquire professional values through their own research and evidence

I thoroughly enjoyed this text and believe that there should be several copies on every university library shelf as well as students buying it as their basic text. There is much in this text for all professionals, not just nurses or students. The author has succeeded in producing a book for helping people to begin exploring the nursing world.
