Leading nurse academic to join University of Surrey

A leading nurse academic is joining the University of Surrey as a professor of nursing.

Jill Maben, who received an OBE for services to nursing and healthcare in 2014, will be joining the university from King’s College London, where she is currently professor of nursing research.

Professor Maben undertook nurse training at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, before moving into academia. She has an MSc in nursing from King’s College and a PhD from the University of Southampton.

Her area of research include national and international studies on workforce issues, improving care quality and measuring patient experience.

Expert adviser

She was expert adviser to the prime minister’s nursing and care quality forum in 2013, representing the National Nursing Research Unit at King’s College.

Professor Maben said: ‘I am delighted to be joining the school of health sciences at the University of Surrey at such an exciting time. I look forward to working with new colleagues to further develop research capacity and support students and nursing colleagues in the important work that they do.

‘Working at the University of Surrey presents fantastic opportunities for developing my research – it’s an organisation going places and I am excited by my appointment.’
