Supporting Carers Award finalist: Ann Cubbin

Supporting Carers Award finalist: Ann Cubbin

Senior lecturer Birmingham City University

Ann has designed and delivered a programme to give carers skills and knowledge in areas such as skin care and moving and handling using her university’s practical and simulation equipment. Topics include nutrition, pressure ulcer prevention and stress management. Using her experience as a district nurse and educator, Ann makes the programme responsive to participants’ needs. Demonstrations supported by presentations and information provide a package of practical skills and knowledge that improves the loved one’s care and the carers’ confidence, reducing the stress and distress experienced. Participants are given information to take home, including practical tips and ways to seek further information for themselves. Feedback has been extremely positive and the programme is attracting interest nationally and internationally.
