Patient’s Choice Award finalist: Sarah Duffy

Patient’s Choice Award finalist: Sarah Duffy

Staff nurse, Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust

Jade Lane, 14, who has anorexia, says of her nurse Sarah: ‘She really cares for everyone. She is the bomb... She was always there for me, even in her own time. We would sit and work through my problems for as long as it took. She knew how to calm me.’ When Jade attempted home leave, Sarah wrote her cards with supportive messages to read at milestones. ‘It was so helpful,’ says Jade. ‘I knew if I struggled to switch trains, I could open a card and she would be pushing me to keep going. She emails even when she’s busy or not on shift. Nobody deserves this award more.’ Sarah has also been key in helping young people living with eating disorders through the #FREEthebutterfly campaign.
